Development of laboratory diagnostics requires understanding of biomedical technology, deep clinical knowledge, and epidemiology of affected populations. Our lab aims to encompass each of these facets to generate real-world analytical test performance evaluations to guide clinical/public health practice and inform industry of their successes and pitfalls.
To date, our research has primarily focused on COVID-19 and Chagas disease serology. Major findings related to COVID-19 include early reports of SARS-CoV-2 serokinetics and relationship to disease severity. Our studies related to Chagas disease have demonstrated differential serological reactivity to commercial assays by region of birth throughout Latin America, suggesting host-parasite biology affects test performance.
